Hi! My name is Cassie Sweeney, and I am a 1st grade teacher at Otis Elementary School. I have been teaching in Chicago Public Schools for over 20 years, and have loved every minute of it. I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher, initially certifying in 2004 and recertifying in 2014. I have a Master’s Degree in Reading and Literacy. I have been a general education classroom teacher for kindergarten through 3rd grade. I also have experience as a Reading Specialist/Interventionist, Lead Teacher, and Supervising Teacher.
I love teaching children how to read and write. There is nothing better than seeing “the lightbulb” 💡 go off. When I am not teaching, I spend time with my husband, Jim, watching my 9-year-old-son, TJ, play baseball and other sports.
